Răspunsul la aceste întrebări îl putem găsii în natrua universala a practicilor și oprerațiilor alchimice. Alchimia poate fi devinită în cei mai simplii termeni ca și "arta trasnformării". Se ocupă și studiază cu principiile și modalitățiile prin care lucrurile se pot schimba. Alchimia este abilitatea de a schimba frecvența gândurilor, materiei prin aplicarea principilor divin, elementelor iubirii, pentru a ajunge la rezultatul dorit de a transforma ceva în alceva.
Alchimia este o formă de cunoaştere protoştiinţifică, specifică etapelor din vechime ale istoriei cunoaşterii umane, care avea trei obiective principale:
- transmutaţia metalelor în aur şi argint
- crearea unui homunculus, un om artificial
- obţinerea aurului din metal; substanţa magică ar fi fost piatra filozofală (o licoare sau o pulbere).
De aici reiese că alchimia nu era doar o formă de investigare a naturii, ci şi o disciplină filozofică şi spirituală. Noţiuni din chimie, metalurgie, fizică, medicină (ştiinţe aflate în fază incipientă) se combină cu cele din astrologie, religie, spiritualism, misticism, semiotică şi artă.

Students and initiates of alchemy and the Hermetic Arts, as well as other practices related to it such the Kabballah and Tarot, share a long and secret tradition that is still continued in contemporary organizations such as the Freemasons, Golden Dawn, Rosicrucians, Gnostics, mystery schools and many other groups.
